High School & Education Program

Making High School Graduation Possible
For youth who have experienced trauma, even the simple act of attending school can be a significant struggle. Third Way Center offers secondary school programs that support teens and young adults in overcoming these challenges, achieving academic success, and reaching the critical milestone of high school graduation, thereby paving the way for future career opportunities. We recognize that meeting each student's individual treatment needs is essential to their ability to learn. That’s why our treatment teams work closely with the education team to ensure every student is prepared for the best possible outcomes.
Tailored Education for Healing, Growth, and Career Readiness
Third Way Center's two state-approved Facility schools, Joan Farley Academy, staffed by highly qualified Special Education teachers, offer residents a variety of classes and learning opportunities. Experiential learning opportunities include service-learning trips to Mission: Wolf, vocational exploration with community partners, and specialized vocational programs at Denver Public Schools' CEC Early College, which provides students with hands-on experience and career-readiness skills. Our Joan Farley Academy - KW Brill Center serves up to 60 youth from our community-based residences, and our Joan Farley Academy - Lowry campus is equipped to serve up to 34 youth, ensuring access to education in a setting tailored to their specific needs.

Personalized Education for Student Success
At Third Way Center, our small class sizes allow students to receive personalized attention, helping them gain a deeper understanding of academic subjects and build confidence in their abilities. Residents attending one of our two state-approved alternative high schools have the opportunity to earn their high school diploma in an environment tailored to their individual educational needs.
Compassion. Expertise. Transformation.
A Compassionate Learning Environment
Rooted in Specialized Support
Third Way Center’s school campuses are led by licensed Master 's-level Special Education teachers, licensed School Social Workers, and a team of Counselors and specialized education staff trained to support traumatized youth. This multidisciplinary approach fosters a compassionate, trauma-informed environment that enables students to focus on learning without the limitations often found in traditional school settings.
Within this supportive structure, our students thrive—80% of eligible Joan Farley Academy students earn their high school diploma or GED during their time in the program. For many, this is a milestone they once thought unreachable. By working closely with treatment staff and providing the stability, attention, and expertise of certified educators, we help youth rebuild their confidence and envision a healthy, successful future.
